'Expendables 2' Poster: Where's Stallone?

'The Avengers' is wall-to-wall, larger-than-life superheroes: New to the big-screen is Hawkeye, the least-well-known of the Marvel film clan. 'We've only seen glimpses of him so far in 'Thor' and that awesome first trailer, so Jeremy Renner's here to enlighten us about the marksman, whom he calls "more badass" than the spies he plays in 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' and the upcoming 'Bourne Legacy.' Although he's been sworn to secrecy, he did confirm that most of his scenes are with Scarlett Johansson and that he doesn't have much screen time with Robert Downey, Jr. Unless he does. We're not quite sure. To a lot of people who've just seen the movies, and never read the comics, Hawkeye is an unknown quantity in the 'Avengers' universe. What can you tell me about Hawkeye, for the movie-only fans? Not a lot. It's really because I don't know. It's a huge movie. There's a lot of characters in it, so there's not a lot of room for backstory or character development. He comes more from The Ultimates universe than the old school Marvel with the mask. I couldn't even talk about that before the costumes were revealed. Now that that's out, it's definitely more The Ultimates version of the character. Definitely seems more authentic, which is why I got involved in the first place. Marvel started creating these superhero movies that are pretty plausible for a superhero movie. Like the whole Iron Man thing was like, "Wow, I could kind of buy it." It actually could kind of happen. I thought they did a really good job and obviously with Downey and getting to work with him at some point. I still didn't work with him on 'The Avengers' much. Are you saying he was in character as Tony Stark the whole time or you just don't have many scenes with him? No, no. Well, kind of, but not. It's hard to explain. You'll have to see the movie. Well, I would see it tomorrow, if I could! So would I, actually. Have you seen any of it? No. And I have no idea what it looks like. It's just too big of a movie in scope for me to grasp. I feel like I'm just a small little pawn in the Joss Whedon world of 'The Avengers' film. What's it like bring all these totally iconic characters together? Awesome! Awesome! Mind you, it happened only once [pauses to think] ... twice, we were all together. Just on the set on the same day, let alone be together. Now, that was fun. When we were in Central Park, everybody was in costume... [pauses] nah, not everybody. I wasn't in costume. Scarlett wasn't. But just to have everybody there... it's a hoot. Does Hawkeye have the history with Scarlett's character in this that they have in the comics? There is some stuff in there with Scarlett and I, yes. But again, I can't speak to what it is. But yeah, I do work with her quite a bit. More than anybody else, I can say that, only because there's ties from the past. You can't get into the history of it, but certainly, they spend a little time together. Are we going to see a standalone Hawkeye movie? Oh, I don't know. I don't have control over that! But would you like to? That's another "I don't know." They'd have to want me to do it. And I'd have to make sure that there's enough there to go do it. Don't want to do it just to do it. You could always just pop up in 'Thor 2' or 'Iron Man 3.' Yeah, you never know in the Marvel universe. Keeps it exciting. Steven Spielberg Recommended Christian Bale for 'Flowers of War': Zhang Yimou

Columbia Pictures A lot of geek talk this week has been about The Dark Knight Rises footage. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows had its premiere, grabbing some spotlight and getting Robert Downey Jr. talking about The Avengers and Iron Man 3.our editor recommends'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Gets a 2014 Release DateThe Amazing Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone Get Into Character (Photos)'The Amazing Spider-Man' Teaser Trailer Released (Video) So some of us have forgotten that other superhero movies are coming out. Like The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Well, Columbia is here to remind us and yesterday quietly slid out a new teaser poster for the movie, which opens July 3, 2012. The poster, which debuted on Superhero Hype, is simple but effective, but more importantly, is consistent with comics iconography of having shadows reveal the true soul or identity or whatever the artists wants of a character. It's an effect used from Batman comics to Spider-Man comics and it's used here to show that the man crawling up the stone wall is ... Spider-Man. And it also makes a point to stand apart from the Sam Raimi-directed movies, whose posters slickly had the Arach-Knight stuck or perched to a glass skyscraper. Check it out ... AFTRA, nets pact on successor contract

The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has reached a tentative three-year deal on a successor contract for its network code deal, covering non-primetime work with the four major television broadcast networks. Deal, announced Friday night, includes a 1% increase in employer contributions to the AFTRA Health and Retirement Funds to bring the total contribtion to to 16.5%. Negotiations began on Nov. 7. If ratified by the AFTRA members, the three-year agreement will run from Nov. 16, 2011 through Nov. 15, 2014. The ''net code,'' which was extended by a year in June 2010, is scheduled to expire on Nov. 15 but was extended on a day-to-day basis for the duration of negotiations. The net code is AFTRA's biggest contract and generates more than $250 million a year in member earnings and covers programming outside primetime drama and sitcoms including dramas in first-run syndication, morning news shows, talk shows, serials (soap operas), variety, reality, contest and sports. Current programs covered include: ''Good Morning America,'' ''The View,'' ''The Price is Right,'' ''General Hospital,'' ''Saturday Night Live,'' ''Dancing With the Stars,'' ''The Voice,'' ''Survivor,'' ''20/20,'' ''Deal or No Deal'' and ''Late Show with David Letterman.'' The Screen Actors Guild covers most primetime programs though AFTRA's been able to sign the lion's share of new series to AFTRA deals. AFTRA president Roberta Reardon chaired the 25-member negotiating committee and AFTRA national exec director Kim Roberts Hedgpeth will serve as chief negotiator. A press blackout had remained in effect for the duration of negotiations. AFTRA said Friday that the new deal increased wages by 6% over the term of the agreement (2% each year) for most categories. The 2% yearly hike in minimums has been standard for the successor deals signed by Hollywood unions in recent years. Other new provisions increase minimum hazard pay for dancers from $80 to $100 per day, and from $100 to $125 per program; the $37.50 overtime rate for Singers will be paid starting at the 7th instead of the 9th hour; iIncrease the minimum work day for stand-Ins who work on primetime variety and award shows, which will increase the minimum daily rate by 20% to 67%; and iImproved contract language to increase equal employment opportunities for union performers AFTRA said full details of the tentative agreement will be submitted for approval to the AFTRA National Board on Jan. 28. If the board approves, the deal will be sent out for ratification by the membership. AFTRA has about 70,000 members. Its leaders have been working on a merger plan with SAG leaders and have been aiming to present that plan next month for a possible vote by members in the spring. The networks also issued a statement: ''The tentative three-year agreement with AFTRA builds on the increases in benefit contributions made in last year's extension, further strengthening the pension and health benefit plans that are so crucial to performers and their families. Both sides worked diligently to reach a deal that is both fair and recognizes the pressures facing the production of television programs produced under this Code.'' Lana Del Rey

Presented by The Troubadour Presents. Reviewed Dec. 7, 2011. Performers: Lana Del ReyThe much-anticipated Los Angeles debut of NY-based hype queen Lana Del Rey was a tepid and mostly awkward affair. The crowd, though packed to the brim at the Troubadour, was comprised primarily of music industry personnel who lacked any sort of real enthusiasm for the performer; instead of extended applause or chatter, pockets of silence emerged between songs as the audience gawked and sized up the Interscope-signed "next big thing." The music itself served as an afterthought to Del Rey's lush-lipped, white-gowned image -- a glaringly self-conscious blend of old Hollywood nostalgia and urban modernism. Entering the stage to a strangely upbeat symphonic string arrangement, Del Rey took control of the mic and launched into new single "Born to Die." The fatalistic title and wordplay clearly fit into the aesthetic she has groomed online over the past few months. It is an image soaked with sex, filtered unevenly through a lens of noirish intrigue and mystery, though ultimately more Fergie than Faye Dunaway. Del Rey's voice is husky and provocative, and in the live setting, surprisingly potent, if not always consistently tasteful. "Born to Die" and "Blue Jeans" found the four-piece band exploring slow, minimalist R&B territory without adding much in the way of melody or texture. In fact, most of the 40-minute set was played with an almost apathetic sense of ensemble dynamics. The group has clearly chosen to lean heavily upon Del Rey's Orbison-echoed vocals, but they have a tendency to recede too far into the background. There were a few brief changes in mood during the concert, most notably the cabaret jazz of "Million Dollar Man" -- an overambitious tune drifting rudderless through a misshapen stylistic morass. The last two songs of the evening were strange hip-hop-infused numbers that further departed from Del Rey's key melodic strengths: space and subtlety. At times she was almost rapping, as the band pumped out funk rock rhythms. Most of the set just didn't really work, but the clear exception was "Video Games." The slow-burning, lovelorn track that brought Del Rey to prominence is truly a pop masterpiece. Every moment of the song drips with tension and in the live setting Del Rey really dug into the vocal and nailed it. For those 4 1/2 minutes it was almost possible to forgive every other false start or bad idea that popped up during the course of the evening. Perhaps her stage show is a work in progress, just as her upcoming full-length debut seems to be. But for all the uncertainty of her future, at least Lana Del Rey has "Video Games." TBS 30 Rock returns to the NBC schedule on Jan. 12, but for those annoyed with the wait, Alec Baldwin delivered a fairly accurate impression of one of his co-stars on Monday night's Conan. After regaling the host in his cartoonish accents of a cab driver, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and a "dinosaur flying over Narnia" that sounded an awful lot like Jimmy Stewart, Baldwin turned his attention to Tracy Morgan. "He's a man-child, is -- I guess -- the most generous way I could put it," said Baldwin. "He's very sweet and very sensitive." Baldwin then described a memory of one of his interactions with Morgan during the first season of 30 Rock. He walked in on the tired star watching old videos of Michael Jackson and looking discouraged. Watch exactly what took place near the 10:25 mark: Alec Baldwin Tracy Morgan Conan O'Brien 30 Rock

Tatum Could Be The Man From UNCLE

For new BFF Steven SoderberghAfter putting him through the ringer courtesy of Gina Carano in the upcoming Haywire (hint: she beats seven bells out of him), Steven Soderbergh has been finding ways to make it up to Channing Tatum. But while making a film based on his experiences as a teen stripper is a start, it'll still mean the man getting his kit off. Still, all his diligence could be about to pay off as rumour has it he's in line to star in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Soderbergh has been slowly putting together the pieces for the film, which Contagion's Scott Z Burns has adapted from the 1960s TV show. The original series saw Robert Vaughn and David McCallum as two globetrotting members of team dedicated to fighting international crime.Trouble is, the director hasn't had much luck locking in lead actors. George Clooney was supposed to take on Vaughn's Napoleon Solo role, but bowed out due to worries about aggravating the back injuries he incurred working on 2005's Syriana. Then Bradley Cooper was in line to handle the part, but he dropped out last week.According to Deadline, Tatum is on Soderbergh's mind as the man for the job, but there's no formal offer in place yet. Since they're both at work on the stripper pic (Magic Mike), there's plenty of time for them to talk over the idea. And given Tatum's action man background (literally, when you consider G.I. Joe and its sequel), he's certainly got the stunt chops. We'll have to wait and see if it develops further.Haywire will be out on January 20.

Grey's Postmortem: Kim Raver States "Teddy's Not just a Puddle around the groundInch

Kim Raver [Warning: This story includes major spoilers from Thursday night's episode of Grey's Anatomy.] Grey's Anatomy really knows steps to make doctors suffer. Poor Teddy (Kim Raver), she finally found happiness with patient-switched-husband Henry (Scott Foley) only to make him die in the surgery within the walls of Dallas Sophistication, probably only one OR lower... so close yet up to now away as his heart gave its final thump. Grey's Anatomy's Taking a chance Game: Who's Dr. Blank? Though Teddy isn't alert to the finish result - Owen (Kevin McKidd) lied to her so she could finish another complicated surgery - she'll soon showed up at learn he died inside the surgery Cristina (Sandra Oh) completed, unaware of who the person actually was. The way in which Teddy experience losing what Kim Raver calls Teddy's "first real loveInch? TVGuide.com taken track of Raver to uncover: Teddy remains so happy this year. How perhaps you have feel if you learned that happiness might be taken off her? Kim Raver: Oh it's devastating. I'd such practicing this with 24, it absolutely was like the minute anything is great, you understand there's a bull's-eye laying lying on your back. [Laughs] Coping with Scott Foley is really great. He's really very easy to make use of and therefore funny. I believed, "Not again, something is coming initially from soon." I were living in the delusion for a while. I used to be like, "Oh that is so competent. Teddy's so for one another.Inch It's terrific after which it I obtained what is the news. In my opinion the entire cast is actually very upset. Through the table bloodstream pressure dimensions when anything starts happening, the whole cast is similar to, "No, no, no!" Discuss the evolution from the relationship. At first it absolutely was manufactured in order to save him, but she really did fall deeply deeply in love with Henry. Raver: Teddy has this factor for trying to repair things. Initially it absolutely was, "Oh that is completely illegal. We have to all have healthcare. It is not your fault that you just can't do this.In . That's also why she's this kind of good surgeon, her ability to enter there and turn a dire situation in to a excellent situation. It was regarding the subject staying close buddies and her not merely because she'd this excellent guy on her behalf before her. Then, when she needed that leap of belief simply because they were getting this excellent a while coupled with this excellent connection, they fell for one another. Probably for Teddy, that is her first soul mates, which showed up in this area from the strange situation that really elevated in to a really deep connection. Obtain the resolution to Grey's Anatomy's taking a chance game Because of this being her first soul mates, the way in which Henry's dying affect her just like a person to ensure that like a physician? Raver: That's what we should will probably explore. I spoken for the authors relating to this. She's labored with dying a good deal really, that will most likely be interesting. It will in all probability differ compared to means by which others have labored from it around the program formerly. Her nearest friend died in 9/11. She saw dying in Iraq when she was there. I have got a sense, which i would be wrong, but knowing Teddy, she'll probably be considered a work maniac because of her failure to process it. Your entire day they really includes to process it will in all probability be really untidy. [Executive producer] Shonda Rhimes which i've spoken about some that. It'll probably be her trying not to really deal with it by ongoing to correct things and dealing. It feels as if the Grey's Anatomy audience is becoming seasoned pros at recognizing signs and symptoms of Publish distressing stress disorder because of Owen and Cristina. You think Teddy will have similar reply to what they've labored with? Raver: What's been interesting about Teddy is that you simply never really saw her with Publish distressing stress disorder. When she turned up at Dallas Sophistication, she's an incredibly positive, existence-re-inifocing, grab-existence attitude, whereas Owen was a lot more dark. In my opinion there is apt to be something, however i am under sure what that's apt to be. I realize that Teddy's not just a puddle on the floor. Shonda which used to do discuss that. It won't be that. Everything will most likely actually cover work so she need not process a massive loss. Exactlty what can you say of Teddy's reaction when she does uncover? Raver: It's so congratulations and therefore fantastically and horrifically done. Teddy, Owen and Cristina finally got past the love triangular now the authors have thrown a wrench inside their working relationship. How a occasions from the episode affect these associations, particularly with Owen lounging to her about Henry's fate? Raver: In my opinion that'll be huge. That's certainly apt to be a sizable step to cope with. I'm glad to look for the 3 of those requiring to exercise stuff again. Not them just like a relationship, but us as working surgeons together. I'm excited being dealing with Teddy and Owen's friendship. What's this prone to mean compared to that friendship? Become popular cases of Grey's Anatomy by reading through through our recaps You think there's an opportunity Dr. Perkins (James Tupper) could return into her existence or possibly could it be too soon for Teddy to try thinking about that? Raver: Oh gosh yeah, In my opinion it is too early. Honestly, I really have no clue how Teddy's recovering from this. Teddy is actually crazily deeply deeply in love with Henry. With Perkins, they were ideal for each other on paper, but Henry and Teddy were good within the heart. They were just good on lots of levels. People people are extremely rare to discover within your existence. I merely have no clue how she'll ever let someone in her own existence compared to that level. Grey's Anatomy returns with new episodes noisy . The month of the month of january. Are you currently presently sad to find out Henry go?

FotoKem expands NextLAB to Louisiana

Reflecting the continued growth of production in the Bayou State, Burbank-based post-production company FotoKem opened a satellite office in New Orleans to support local productions and provide quick deployment of its nextLAB services. The new downtown location near the French Quarter offers a range of post services and support, including file-based dailies, file delivery services and offline editorial systems. FotoKem is currently working with multiple TV projects and feature films in the region. To ensure rapid content delivery from one location to another, the satellite office is integrated with FotoKem's globalDATA platform, which facilitates delivery of content via a secure internet connection and can be linked directly to editing rooms, company offices or any location worldwide. The expansion into New Orleans is being overseen by Peter Santoro, FotoKem's VP of feature and commercial services. "FotoKem customers shooting in the region have prompted this expansion," said FotoKem VP Mike Brodersen. "The need for local, file-based post-production and location mobile services is growing as the state enjoys record-breaking production, stimulated by tax incentive programs. We are looking forward to helping filmmakers streamline post in the southeast region." Louisiana offers a 30 % transferable incentive for total in-state expenditures related to the production of a motion picture. An additional 5% labor incentive can be earned on the payroll of Louisiana residents that are employed by a state-certified motion picture production. Louisiana has no limit to the amount of incentives that can be earned by a single production. "Over the past two years nextLAB has been deployed on a wide range of productions around the world, from Burbank to Beijing," said Tom Vice, VP of FotoKem's nextLAB unit. "The file-based workflow is increasingly entrenched in the filmmaking process, and the need for powerful and reliable tools grows exponentially. Last year over a 100 projects were shot in Louisiana, and predictions for this year are on pace to surpass that." The New Orleans expansion comes on the heels of the recent partnership between FotoKem and Fletcher Camera in Chicago and Detroit. Fletcher rents and manages the deployment of FotoKem's nextLAB units in the Midwest, primarily Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. The nextLAB division of FotoKem develops new workflows while addressing the challenges of the various digital camera technologies and focuses on helping filmmakers understand the intricacies of RAW and data-centric post-production. The unit has developed proprietary file-based workflow software that securely stores media, archives to LTO, and provides quality-control tools, offering access to metadata, audio syncing, color management, and transcoding. FotoKem's nextLAB Mobile systems are built on nextLAB software and consist of integrated, portable units that bring post capabilities on set or near location. Mobile units can be deployed to assist with streamlining workflow and the dailies process and providing fast delivery to editorial and finishing. FotoKem has provided customized nextLAB services for the upcoming films "Rampart," "Jeff Who Lives at Home," "Haywire" and "Man With the Iron Fists," as well as TV shows "Californication," "Homeland" and "New Girl." Ralph Fiennes Hates Twitter, Is Kinda Right

Ralph Fiennes, honored at the BFI London Film Festival awards for his directorial debut — the Shakespeare adaptation Coriolanus — does not think in sound bites of 140 words or less. ‘We’re in a world of truncated sentences, soundbites and Twitter… [Language] is being eroded — it’s changing. Our expressiveness and our ease with some words is being diluted so that the sentence with more than one clause is a problem for us, and the word of more than two syllables is a problem for us.” So hey, kids — go see Coriolanus next January and expand your (five syllables!) vo-ca-bu-la-ry! Mel Brooks on His Secret Second Career like a Horror Movie Godfather: Part 2

Ongoing Wednesday's conversation with Mel Brooks, the legendary funnyman talks with Moviefone about whether he should get 'The Fly' in theaters because of its anniversary and discloses the remarkably epic-sounding idea for any dream project he still hopes to film. With 'The Elephant Man' and 'The Fly' as well as comedies like 'Dracula: Dead and Loving It' or 'Spaceballs,' you love to use horror and sci-fi. I love horror and that i like sci-fi and that i elevated a boy, Max Brooks, who authored the 'Zombie Survival Guide' and today 'World War Z' and they are creating a movie from it with Kaira Pitt. I labored using the late Leslie Nielsen, whenever we did 'Dracula.' Used to do the show with Dick Cavett lately, and somebody within the audience stated, "Inform us that which you really think about Leslie Nielsen." I stated, "He was truly, highly funny and artistic and witty and you'd never take him for any Canadian." I am sure we've got a couple of letters from Canada. What were your impressions when Max handed you his zombie fiction? I stated to my spouse, "Everyone's likely to think while he authored 'Saturday Evening Live' for a few years, this is tongue in oral cavity. I understand it's not." He thinks that you simply gotta safeguard yourself from zombies. You gotta be diligent and the only method to stop Them would be to chop their heads off and shoot Them within the brain. It offered on the million copies once they moved it of humor to horror within the book stores the best people got a your hands on it, plus they understood him. It appears like remakes have grown to be a very large trend in Hollywood at this time. When audiences and experts discuss the finest remakes ever, 'The Fly' is generally within the top three. What is your opinion is paramount to getting through a remake properly? I'd rather not brag, however i believe we did a far greater version compared to original Fox movie. There's gotta be considered a deep respect for that concept, a minimum of from the movie you are carrying out a remake of. 'The Fly' is really a sensational idea and that we had hindsight, plus science had moved on for 3 decades because the original one. Therefore we required benefit of everything and i believe our idea of metamorphosis really was the genius that made 'The Fly' so effective when it comes to its art and it is entertainment. When Anne and that i used to do 'To Be or otherwise To Become,A we treated the Lubitsch film with utmost respect, but we'd history great. We're able to add things he did not learn about Hitler. And that we did an excellent movie. I possibly could tell you just how our 'Fly' was much better than the very first 'Fly,' but I'd not have the nerve to express our 'To Be or otherwise To Be' was much better than the Lubitsch one. That might be foolish 'cause his was superb. [Anne] was incredible in 'To Be or otherwise To Become,A she understood all individuals Polish words. We sang 'Sweet Georgia Brown' in Polish. We needed to translate it as being close once we could as to the the Polish lyrics could be and she or he understood each and every word in Polish. She understood how you can commit to memory it and that i did not, I had been just type of singing along. I usually thought she was among the best. What voices in comedy are you currently most thinking about at this time? I'm not sure, some comedy works plus some does not. It is extremely hard. Judd Apatow is fairly good, both like a producer so that as a director. She has quite a sharp spontaneity and there is things that were remarkably funny within the last couple of years I figured 'The Hangover' was. The follow-up... I wasn't thrilled. But the first really was funny. I did not do this, I did not write it and that i did not direct it and appear how good it's. [Laughs] They were given a great deal raunchier since i have built them into -- a great deal raunchier. I'll accept bad taste in a moment, as lengthy as there's some good comedy minds and performances. But when there is not, it's a whole lot worse to need to suffer bad dirty jokes. Not too I am clean, I am pretty awful too, but a minimum of I salvage it 'cause the comedy's good. What goals do you've still got with Brooksfilms? The other tales would you like to tell? I've several Spielberg did his, however i never told my The Second World War story. I had been a soldier in World war 2. The past few several weeks from the war I had been really in combat. There's an military story within me, and i believe there is a World war 2 Brooksfilm somewhere. Sometime next summer time or fall or Christmas, I'll come up with a 'A Good reputation for Mel Brooks: The Beginning.A There is a wonderful company known as the Shout Factory, who did the entire version of 'the 2000 Year-old Guy,' plus they stated, "A lot stuff you have done is bits of the Carson show, let us perform a salute for your career." One of these would be the Cinemax hour beside me and Dick Cavett funnily enough I am sparkling clean, the dirty the first is Dick Cavett. I segwayed into Broadway 10 years ago and today I would do 'Blazing Saddles' 'cause it gives itself to as being a Broadway Musical. It's tunes inside it already and it is crazy and it is very entertaining. Must I request Fox to reissue 'The Fly'? Yes, you need to. We don't wish to remake 'The Fly.' This is the very best one we'll get. I ought to tell Fox: "This does not belong on the DVD. This goes on the giant screen. Don't allow it to be in three dimensional. In the event that's what you are gonna do, overlook the release 'cause it isn't a three dimensional film." three dimensional connotes something just a little cheap. It is simply, 'Journey To the middle of our planet,A you realize? It's just like a William Castle gimmick. Yeah, I wouldn't would like them to complete three dimensional. 'Avatar,' OK, it's pretty good. However, you could play 'The Fly' for any week in nearly every city on the planet making some cash. Just say "Next Friday: 'The Fly.'" Boom! It's destined to be filled. I am certainly likely to go. Jim Gianopulos is running that company, they know nutrients. I am gonna call him up and say, "Look, I had been speaking to Eric and Eric recommended that we'd make lots of money if we'd just reissue 'The Fly' around the giant screen." Sure, I'll go ahead and take charge about this. Only then do we can produce a special anniversary DVD from it, but we gotta kick them back around the giant screen. If you have never witnessed it around the giant screen, it is the best horror film available. I am bullsh-ting, but it may be. All Canada might find it. And I'll let them know Shaun Goldblum is Canadian, they do not have to know. I truly appreciate you caring much about this 'cause you realize, it's among the finest encounters of my existence. And That I like Moviefone, it's my type of stuff. It had been like after i was doing 'Blazing Saddles' and that i had hired Gig Youthful to experience the Waco Kid. I hired Youthful because I understood he would be a recuperating alcoholic similar to the character within the movie -- that you simply never must do. Have an actor, the actual stuff is harmful. And So I got Youthful and that he was upside lower within the jailhouse within the opening scene and that he began burbling and acting just a little dizzy and crazy. I stated to my assistant director, "Gee, this person is incredible. Look, he understands how to do an alcoholic." After which he began sickness and crying and that i stated, "That's enough for you personally.Inch They transported him away and set him within an ambulance towards the hospital and that i was stuck. I known as Gene Wilder who had been my closest friend and understood exactly what I had been doing. He was going to perform a part in 'The Little Prince,' and that i stated, "What can i do?" I began crying and that he stated, "I'll fly out." And that he did, and that is known as a bounce. An excellent, lucky bounce. I attempted to obtain Richard Pryor and Fox -- no, which was Warner Siblings -- they stated, "No, no, he's a substance abuser.Inch It was before he grew to become a large star. I Quickly met Cleavon Little -- and there is an excellent bounce. He was fantastic. He was funny and handsome and understood what happening. His awareness am sharp and thus good. [On 'History around the globe, Part 1'] Richard was doing meth or something like that -- he burned themself up -- and that i did not get sound advice, and Madeline Kahn stated, "I understand a man in NY who's so gifted. Call him up, his title is Gregory Hines and he's never done movies." And So I known as him, he travelled out and that i met him and woop! There's an execllent bounce. You are taking a poor bounce and that he becomes an ideal guy. So many of these are wonderful bounces. Darren Aronofsky to helm Noah

He's tackled everything from paranoid mathematicians to washed up wrestlers to bonkers ballet dancers, but this time Darren Aronofsky is getting Biblical on our asses."Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family's journey," the Black Swan director said."The imaginations of countless generations have sparked to this epic story of faith. It's my hope that I can present a window into Noah's passion and perseverance for the silver screen."Noah has been a long-time passion project for Aronofsky, who was inspired to write a poem called The End Of The World Through Noah's Eyes when he was 13 and won a competition at his school."Noah was the first person to plant vineyards and drink wine and get drunk. It's there in the Bible - it was one of the first things he did when he reached land. There was some real survivor's guilt going on there. He's a dark, complicated character," the director said back in 2007.As TF reported back in June this film was being touted as a "big fantasy epic", so it's no surprise to see The Fountain writer Ari Handel on board.Aronofsky and Handel will hand their script for Noah over to Academy Award-nominated screenwriter John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator) for a rewrite.Scott Franklin and Aronofsky will then produce the movie. Outside of the fact that Paramount Pictures and New Regency Productions have joined forces for this production, that's all we know right now.Pretty sure there'll be an ark in it though!

David Hasselhoff Cheers to Sons of Anarchy for an inspired bit of stunt casting. Want more Cheers & Jeers? Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now! When it was announced that David Hasselhoff would guest star in Season 4 of FX's motorcycle-gang drama, I'll admit I groaned. Would this be another distractingly cheesy joke like Stephen King's cameo last season? Imagine my surprise when the Baywatch veteran threw himself with gusto into the role of Dondo, a famously well-endowed porn star-turned-producer. He devoured the part even more ferociously than a certain cheeseburger we all remember. Here's hoping we haven't seen the last of Dondo. The Hoff wasn't the episode's only welcome guest. Tom Arnold reprised his juicy role as adult-film-industry sleazeball Georgie Caruso, and notoriously cranky SOA creator (and Mickey Rourke lookalike) Kurt Sutter returned as one-eyed inmate Otto to play poignant scenes opposite his real-life wife, Katey Sagal, as well as the always-great Mark Boone Junior. No doubt about it: This season, these bikers are on a roll. What did you think of last night's SOA? Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!

Rooney Mara In Line For Oldboy

She's top option for Spike Lee's remakeThis is simply in the rumour and wishlist stage presently, but Twitch were first using the tales about Spike Lee and Josh Brolin, therefore we could be reasonably confident once they inform us that Rooney Mara is within serious contention for that female lead in Oldboy. That role could be sushi chef Mi-do, performed in Park Chan-wook's film by Kang Hye-jeong. Lee's latest version names her as Marie, based on Twitch, so there's most likely reason to suspect that they will not be planning sushi any longer either. But she'll most probably remain the love interest, who our hero Oh Dae-su / presently-un named-Brolin requires a shine to on the way to fixing the mystery of his 15-year jail time. Additionally, there are the threat of her dying hanging over his progress, simply to spice some misconception. Oh, and without wanting to become spoilerific, possibly there's more to her character than is immediately revealed...Mara, obviously, is really hot at this time in Hollywood, presently raging through David Fincher's The Lady Using the Dragon Tattoo as Stieg Larsson's violent goth punk hacker savant Lisbeth Salander. Oldboy will make for an additional edgy role in another dark remake, although as we have stated before, Mark Protosevich has eight volumes of manga to attract from in the script, plus they don't much resemble the Chan-wook classic. There's possibility of this to become a completely different film, but comments from everyone on our previous reviews suggest you are not so convinced with that argument...There does not appear to quite be considered a start-date for that Spike Lee Oldboy to date, but for your current Rooney / Lisbeth needs, make certain you choose in the latest problem of Empire.

Eric Bana's Next Movie Is Going To Be Brilliant

Diamonds would be the Hulk's best friendFresh from training teenage assassins in Hanna, Eric Bana is on the go from spycraft to crime for Brilliant, a heist thriller in development at Lakeshore Entertainment. The film involves a little-time crook who will get confused with large-time gangsters for any gemstone robbery that will normally be way to avoid it of his league. We'd surmise that Bana's may be the amateur role (that might, whether it's appropriate, provide him the chance to interrupt the comedy chops that we have not seen for some time) but it is less than obvious from Variety's story in the event that's the situation. Unconfirmed reviews have Cameron Diaz cast opposite him within an unspecified role. Let us have her because the leader from the professionals right? None of yer sappy love interest nonsense...The Brilliant script is as simple as Gillian Gorfil, who had been a producer on Bloodstream Gemstone: if diamonds aren't quite her closest friend, they are a minimum of solid acquaintances. And also the director is Robert Luketic: no apparent choice given a CV which includes Legally Blonde and Monster In Law, but he seemed to be behind the credit card-sharping drama 21 and also the Ashton Kutcher action comedy Murders. No start date or release info yet, however with casting going ahead, there must be more to follow along with shortly...

Boardwalk Empire Roars Back for Season 2

Michael Shannon If HBO's period gangster epic Boardwalk Empire features a single truism to impart to working stiffs, it might be: It's good being the king... well, mostly. Sure, Steve Buscemi's Nucky Thompson - Atlantic City treasurer, energy broker and bootlegger supreme - is awash in money, energy and glamour, but his day-to-day existence can be a never-ending wager on whack-a-mole, with egos to stroke, police risks to evade and scores to remain. The show's sophomore season, which happens noisy . 1921, finds that dichotomy entirely pressure but cleverly movies the script, opening while using tomcatting Nucky deeply deeply in love with Kelly Macdonald's hardscrabble immigrant, Margaret Schroeder, but facing a potentially deadly uprising among his nearest business allies. "Alliances change," Buscemi describes. "Last season his personal existence was more freewheeling, but his family were individuals he labored with. Now he's on shakier ground together, but he's closer with Margaret." As if remaining a stride while watching law (especially Michael Shannon's fervent highlighting-on-insane federal agent, Nelson Van Alden) and bloodthirsty rivals like Arnold Rothstein (Michael Stuhlbarg) and Al Capone (Stephen Graham) weren't dangerous enough, Nucky now finds themselves inside the conspiratorial crosshairs of his would-be mentor, the Commodore (Dabney Coleman) protégé Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt) in addition to their own lawman brother, Eli (Shea Whigham). That, states creator and executive producer Terence Winter, might be the storytelling focus of Season 2: "It's really an issue of Nucky closing ranks and looking to safeguard themselves out of this massive attack on his world." According to Buscemi, the uprising is travelled into the insurgents' wish to have "a bigger little bit of the wedding cakeInch but furthermore rooted in by doing this to become disrespected by an overweening, dictatorial boss, while Nucky sees it a classic situation of bad deed going unpunished. "He's a smart guy in lots of ways,Inch Buscemi confesses, "but maybe he underrated how people would go through the products he's implemented, which there'd be effects." Meanwhile, Nucky makes more recent and much more effective alliances that belongs to them this season. He'll rub elbows while using Irish Republican Military, on the way recruiting Owen Sleater (Charlie Cox) to become stand-by sorts for your now-untrusted Jimmy. Later this season, he'll make a vacation in his ancestral homeland, Ireland. Around the house front, however, all is love and loyalty and renewal. Following their circumspect courtship in Boardwalk's first season, Nucky and Margaret begin Season 2 ensconced in something close to domestic bliss. For Nucky, it's a extended-preferred second chance following a years-ago deaths of his first wife and infant boy, while onetime servant Margaret now finds herself a respected lady of the house. "She's an authentic ally for Nucky, an excellent person to own by his side," observes Macdonald, who states from the romance, "It was not like love at first sight - it absolutely was more realistic, their respect and love started growing." Dye's World Coffee shop remembers

As the amount of truly independent radio developers appears to dwindle even more around the terrestrial dial, tv stations possess a reason to celebrate as David Dye's World Coffee shop marks its 20th anniversary on Philadelphia's WXPN. The tastemaking show will commemorate the milestone having a two-day concert in the finish of October featuring John Hiatt, Feist, Dawes and also the Band's Robbie Robertson, prefaced by a number of 20 retrospective broadcasts. Yet Dye will even create amount of time in each show for any new artist spotlight -- a suitable format for any reveal that has given key early contact with the kind of Coldplay and My Morning Jacket whilst diving deep into blues and jazz catalogs. Sometimes they are so large and thus apparent," Dye stated, remembering the functions he'd were built with a submit breaking. "Shaun Buckley could be one. And that we were sooner than early with Norah Johnson, and guy, you can tell right right from the start... Searching back, individuals appear like no-brainers, but at that time they were not." But Dye still has not found the miracle formula for brand new artist discovery. "Sometimes it's difficult to get anybody with exclusivity who's worthwhile. I'm able to play lots of audio, but could it be gonna have endurance? Will it be something where our audience states, 'Oh I heard about them when'?" The same, "Still it always begins beside me hearing something and saying, 'Wow.' " Dye's show is syndicated on 185 public r / c, and that he shows little manifestation of losing his touch. Yet Dye casts a little of the wary eye on the way forward for the format in the current condition. It's difficult that i can be really positive," Dye stated. "But nevertheless, I'm able to indicate individuals individuals who really provide a quality niche product of some kind -- be that the quality stylish-hop station, or something like that like what NPR music does, or what we should do. I actually do be worried about solely Internet-based radio, just meaning of ensuring stations are associated with some kind of terrestrial source or publication. A Pitchfork radio station might do very well, for instance. But you need some kind of a double-whammy to obtain your audience there. Niches are likely to remain niches, but this mass broadcasting factor is clearly in danger." n Longtime TV author and showrunner Rene Balcer might have been in the helm of among the smallscreen's more profitable spinoffs in "Law and Order: Criminal Intent," but it is tough to think about any apparent precedent for his latest venture -- like a songwriter for New York bluesmen, together with a Chinese artist and MacArthur "genius" grant recipient. Balcer's debut like a blues lyricist could be heard in the Virginia Museum of proper Art, associated Chinese artist Xu Bing's exhibit "Tobacco Project Virginia." A follower of Xu's, Balcer composed a poem, "Backbone," to become integrated into his art the poem, a tribute towards the ladies who done tobacco farms, relies positioned on phrases obtained from stencils utilized by 1800s farmers to trademark their wares. To have an exhibit that happens in Virginia, the blues in some way needs to take part in it," Balcer remembered. Balcer and songwriter Michael Sackler-Berner (who led music towards the "Law and Order" franchise) searched for for blues artists to interpret the poem into song, even reaching to Robert Manley contemporary David "Honeyboy" Edwards, who died recently. They eventually found a set of New York veterans, singer Captain Luke and guitarist Large Ron Hunter, each of whom coincidentally had childhood encounters on tobacco farms. What essentially originate from 1800s Virginia, therefore it felt authentic. I certainly don't believe I am likely to be writing blues tunes about getting out of bed today and discovering my Maserati got taken back," he chuckled. "But that one just felt appropriate." Photo during the day: Ingmar Bergman Around the Group of 'Jaws' (No, Really)

Your likely first deliberation over seeing this photo of Ingmar Bergman around the group of 'Jaws' -- Illustrator! But that actually does seem to be the legendary Swedish director analyzing the mouth of Bruce the shark. Because this photo comes thanks to The Qualifying criterion Collection's Facebook page (and never, say, eBay), it appears pretty legit. Who understood the guy behind such cinema works of art as 'The Seventh Seal' was pals using the then up-and-coming Steven Spielberg? Although apparently lots of famous filmmakers got on-board that train early: French auteur François Truffaut made an appearance in the next film, 'Close Encounters from the Third Kind.' A large number of Facebook customers have previously develop some good captions, including: David Fogg: &lrm"You are gonna require a bigger existential crisis" Will Hattman: Via a Glass, Sharkly Jim Shulman: The seventh seal was the appetizer Scott MacKenzie: Redefines the title "Smiles of the Summer time Evening." (Well, Bruce was Moviefone's Smilingest Male Villain ever.) And something conspiracy theory from Shaun Yana: "In reality, that's an Animatronics Specialist putting on a Bergman mask, the photo is really a hoax, haha! Want proof, take a look at his lab coat." Here's speculating that Bergman idolizer Woodsy Allen is crying his eyes out somewhere the director never visited the group of 'Annie Hall.' So far as we all know, anyway.

50/50: Toronto Film Review

One forget about gasps within the audacity from the movie searching to obtain laughs about cancer or existence-threatening conditions. Such movies are becoming a web-based subgenre among European filmmakers, and Showtime finds ratings and honours season success while using Large C, its dark comedy of a lady recognized with cancer. There can, clearly, be problems, as recent as Gun Van Sant'streacly tale Restlessin Cannes or, for people with strong recollections in addition to more effective DVD collections, dating back 1978's The Conclusion, with and directed by Burt Reynolds. (The terminal illness inside the latter situation was not ever stated, if memory serves.) Into this subgenre strongly steps 50/50, a cancer comedy starring Ernest Gordon-Levitt andAnna Kendrickand put together by Will Reiser, who draws on his personal fight getting an uncommon kind of that disease. His success rate inside the delicate balance between comedy as well as the profound devastation of those an illness is much more than 50/50, nevertheless the film is not without its tonal lapses. The guess here's that whenever the Jonathan Levine-directed film opens in your area Sept. 30, following its Toronto debut, mainstream audiences are really sufficiently conditioned for just about any comedy of a disturbing illness -- just like lengthy as that movie stays for the sunny side in the street. Which 50/50does thoroughly. Even through the movie's opening credits, Michael Giacchino's chirpy music assures everyone else that everything will most likely be okay. Your film's quantity of figures get introduced as you would in times comedy -- the easy banter, the moment recognition of types as well as the readily recognized girlfriend-problem its hero-victim already suffers. The question 50/50raises is merely what measures into sitcom territory is it possible to venture together with your material without trivializing the terrifying cancer experience? Reiser has everything over almost every other filmmaker who is able to only guess at what which have is similar to. And possibly things did happen using this method to Reiser, who choose a comedy professional needed the Norman Cousins approach of laughing illness into submission. But this comedy professional has processed his experience using a purely formulaic script. Not always a poor one, really, and certainly not merely one without any goodly volume of laughs. However, the thing is just about any story development coming miles away. As soon as Gordon-Levitt's Adam get his diagnosis, the story breaks off into sitcom zones: Adam's home where irrepressible, best bud Kyle (Seth Rogen, doing dual purpose just like a producer), drops by whatsoever several hours to produce happy-slob good cheer in addition to where distressed girlfriend Rachael (Bryce Dallas Howard) is game to think about proper proper care of her guy its about a few minutes the clinic where Adam does his chemo with some personable, level-headed older patients (Philip Baker Hall andMatt Frewer) as well as the intimate therapist's office where a flirtation evolves between Adam and also the highly unskilled illness counselor, Katherine (Kendrick). Reiser has written his figures by getting an indelible sweetness and vulnerability, which allows the cast to supply performances having a couple of depth. So a predicament for instance Kyle insisting that Adam which he should cruise women inside a bar trying to find sympathy lays -- Cruisin' while using Large C as they say -- comes off as quite funny together with Adam's first chemo session where he eats weed-laced sweets created having a fellow patient's wife and floats in the hospital afterwards. Gordon-Levitt is actually an excellent actor that, in what comes lower to some totally reactive character, he still scores large with easy-to-identify-with feelings that pitch him progressively in to a stress mode since the illness won't release its grip. It's worrying that Kendrick's role here's so close to her Oscar-nominated performance in Up inside the Airas a novice professional who wrongly thinks she's all the right solutions. But such is her facility with emotional transitions they comprises successful from the role that may have been written with possibly too much condescension. Worse because department, however, is Howard's girlfriend, who wears her insincerity on her behalf account sleeve. Carrying Out A Help, Howard is vulnerable to turning to be Hollywood's favorite beautiful villain. Rogen stretches no new acting muscles here, but he's doing, as intended, provide a humorous counterbalance for the terrible (though mostly off camera) bustle of Adam's cancer treatment. Anjelica Hustonstarts off just like a typical overbearing, worried mother but progressively determines her own beachhead inside the story's feelings as she copes with, quite simply Adam's counselor, a husband she can't consult with together with a boy who'll not return her calls. Oddly, the film achieves its finest success within the third act, where most movies collapse. Possibly since the significance of Adam's condition is a lot more apparent in those days, it's better suited convey the dark comedy guaranteed earlier. The emotional balance is a lot more stable and everything feels more real and less ... well, sitcom-ant. Tech credits are fine with Terry Stacey's cinematography doing justice to Canadian locations masquerading as Dallas and Annie Spitz's production design locating the frightening fight for survival inside an authentic but nonetheless visually pleasing atmosphere.
